  • anointing of the sick

The Anointing of the Sick is one of the two healing Sacraments (the other one is Reconciliation); this Sacrament (formerly known as "Last Rites" or "Extreme Unction") is NOT just for the dying person, but for anyone who is seriously ill.  When someone is, in fact, terminal and/or in a hospice situation, three Sacraments are offered to them -- Reconciliation, Eucharist and Anointing of the Sick. Actually, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick provides not only the prayer and hope for physical healing, but also spiritual healing through the forgiveness of sins; therefore, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is not necessary, but the person may request this Sacrament if he/she wants to have an oral confession of one's sins -- perhaps to provide a further sense of peace and comfort.  It is recommend that the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick be received early in one's illness or terminal situation, so that the person may have the benefit of hearing and responding to the beautiful prayers of this rite.

Please call the office at (702-HLY-SPRT) 702-459-7778  to schedule the reception of this sacrament.
